A lot of people use the phrase “deliberate practice” to mean any practice done on purpose.

That is not enough.

Deliberate practice is not merely trying hard.
It is not repeating the thing for a long time.
It is not casually doing reps while hoping for improvement.

It is individualized training designed to improve specific components of performance, with feedback sharp enough to expose errors and difficulty calibrated tightly enough to force adaptation.

This matters because most practice is too vague. People do the whole activity over and over, but the weak subskill never gets isolated. They accumulate hours without accumulating corrections. They confuse time spent with progress made.

Real practice is more surgical. Find the bottleneck. Design the rep. Attempt it. Get feedback. Correct. Repeat until the bottleneck moves.
