Why Would You Use An LLM For That

Last year when I was doing my taxes on one of the most popular tax apps, I caught it using an LLM to generate the info on the final summary page.

Like, why would you use an LLM for thatโ€ฆ

Anyway, the way I noticed is that one of the numbers was not making sense. After spending a while scratching my head, I refreshed the page, the whole summary slide changed wording slightly, and the wrong number changed into what I originally expected.

Refreshed a few more times just to confirm what I was seeing and yeah, it did what youโ€™d expect, the wording changed slightly each time, just like youโ€™d expect from an LLM.
