Calculators are for people who have already mastered the calculation.

That sounds harsh until you understand the principle. A tool should extend competence, not replace the formation of competence.

If you use it to bypass the foundational development, you do not become powerful. You become dependent. The tool becomes your ceiling instead of your floor.

The same pattern shows up everywhere.
Calculators before arithmetic fluency.
Libraries before understanding the model.
AI before manual skill.
Automation before process mastery.
Templates before taste.

Use tools. But earn them. Master the manual version well enough that the tool becomes leverage instead of a crutch.
