Q&A: Can Math Academy’s Structure Be Used to Teach Other Subjects?

One of the main reasons why so many people struggle to learn math is that they struggle to climb the hierarchy. Climbing the hierarchy has been a primary focus of our solution approach, so our solution is going to generalize best to subjects that are similarly hierarchical.

I think the MA approach would generalize well to CS, with light adaptation to support the more project-heavy courses that one encounters when moving away from mathy CS (e.g., algos + data structures) and into systems CS (e.g., distributed systems). But I still anticipate that these projects could be broken down into topics where fundamental concepts / skills are introduced, and then they are pulled together into a mini-project, and then multiple mini-projects are pulled together into a bigger project. Or something like that.

Basically, I think one could break down even the largest educational projects into a KG structure and then incrementally push through that KG using effective learning techniques. I know this is a bit hand-wavy, but my gut tells me that with enough thought and effort, the details could be worked out to make this work.

Even something like biology – I think a similar MA-style approach could be used. I’m actually learning biology myself by coaching ChatGPT to emulate a MA-style approach, and it’s working out pretty well. Takes some work for me to keep it on the rails, and it doesn’t feel nearly as efficient as a full-fledged adaptive learning system, but it does feel way more efficient than any other resources I’ve found. Humanities, though… yeah, I don’t know what a MA-style approach would look like either, but I also don’t have much experience in that arena.
